Learning from a hobby
Any hobby is a great and fun, most of them, occasion to learn.
If you are following me or a subscriber there is no surprise that I like learning. That is how I became a medical doctor in the first place. But it is different kind of learning by practicing a hobby.
Let’s talk first about knitting. You have a ball of yarn and with some needles and doing some loops you can learn to make clothing for you or for others. It is like magic. I know that this hobby is not so cool anymore, but I did find it fun. And by doing something with your hand it is also very calming.
Next let’s talk about drawing. You sit at a coffee show waiting for your friend and you can doodle on a napkin while you wait. It is something to do when you are outside or in your home. You can teach yourself to draw what you see with only a pencil and a notebook.
I think most of the people I know that complain about not having time for a hobby reject the initial part of learning for a hobby. They lack the knowhow and they what from the start to be very good at something. Even if you have talent for a hobby, you still need to perfect it, in time.
If you know from the start all there is to it to your fresh hobby then you get bored with it. I would. And if you can make money out of it right away then you can’t call it a hobby, but a trade or a profession.
Let’s talk about more physical hobbies like scuba diving or surf or mountain climbing. You need to learn to practice them. You need to learn some abilities in order to stay under water in scuba diving or to not drown while you surf. And you need another set of skills to climb a mountain. But one person can practice all the hobbies from above if they are open to learn how to do it and how to be safe practicing them.
See you in my next post!
